the sound of almost silence...

the mountains stretched along the horizon... as the sun faded, a soft reddish hue engulfed their strong peaks... a majestic pair of swans briskly flew overhead -- the superior span of their wings assisting in their swift journey... only a slight flap of their feathered fly guides could be heard, aside from a somewhat startling squawk now and then... the muffled sound of a dog barking seemed ages away, otherwise the air was void of interruption, noise, distraction...

the fire swirled light grey ashes into my hair... its warmth left a blushed tone upon my cheeks... my surroundings were a steady balance of comfort and mystery, as you could see the river in the distance, shedding its ice layer, yet the fire steered me from venturing to explore...

a tiny stereo blurted out mix cd, after mix cd... drumming up memories and mirroring the calming affect at every angle... matthew good, erykah badu and common, sarah harmer, weakerthans, oasis, incubus -- the playlist continued... the fire hissed, crackled and waved in the light breeze... as i stared out at miles and miles of mountains and lingering sunlight, 'colourblind' by counting crows began to play over the speakers and it all made perfect sense...

"i am ready, i am ready, i am ready, i am... fine... i am fine..."
