break the ice...

the sunlight shone down once again yesterday, causing my body to overheat under my long overcoat... as i gripped my hand to swing open the door to my favoured java stop, a sign glared back at me that it was deserted due to holiday closure... i sauntered off and compromised on tim horton's, once again...

with a cooling ice capp, chocolate chip muffin -- also known as a little cake, truly -- and pages of david sedaris awaiting my eyes, i sat solo... much of my life has become a one woman show... finishing work at 1:00 in the afternoon each day doesn't usually mean that others are available to come out and play... i smirked to myself as i scribbled down hilarious lines from my reading material and caught myself each time before embarrassingly laughing out loud... a soft hello disrupted my solitude and next thing i knew i sat face to face with a fellow member of the media for a wealthy, 60+ minute talk about anything and everything under the sunshine...

as we neared the end of our lengthy, yet casual conversation, the man seated next to us interrupted to ask if i was in fact the new morning show voice... i confirmed his suspicions and met my first listener in the flesh... my coffee shop companion left with work beckoning her and i joined the listener for a quick few minutes of introduction and interests...

the yukon river is shedding its cold, solid appearance in exchange for the strength of flowing waters once again... i gazed upon it from the top of the bridge and smelt the fragrant air, lacking pollution and lingering with a sort of freshness... unless it is your goal, it's actually more difficult to be alone than end up in impromptu conversation... this is also a part of nature...
