winter solitude...

i took the long way home tonight... by accident... i was waltzing through the slush of a slightly warm winter evening and i forgot to turn down a certain street... blame it on the comfortable weather or blame it on the gentle distraction of bright eyes coming through my headphones... as i realized that i'd taken a wrong turn -- or not taken one at all for that matter -- it didn't even dawn on me to turn around... suddenly i had this overwhelming desire to simply wander...

with my unravelling mittens clinging to my brown faux-suede purse, i trudged through the murky gray of traffic tainted snow... i looked up at the majestic streetlights waiting for a flake of snow to fall in its beam... as i kept going, i felt the warmth of my jacket searing through to my clothing underneath... the air was cool enough to warrant my semi-insulated houndstooth coat, but warm enough to motivate ditching my fleece black scarf... it was as though i was the title character in a movie during the climatic, emotionally revealing scene of self-discovery towards the end... everyone was watching -- even though i was certain i had no audience... i smiled at nothing and felt the presence of someone i knew behind me, though i never spoiled it by looking back... the music in my ears became a soundtrack for the moment... and i felt as though i should be contemplating more than what i'd eat when i got home...
