a million little lies...

ok, last post of the day... i promise...

i just had to mention something about this whole james frey controversy... the deal is that frey wrote a supposed memoir called a million little pieces about drugs, jail and emotional overhaul... i haven't read it, but oprah, my friend scott and my sister-in-law are just a few of the people that swear by its every word... so, the book is considered to be spectacular... this is until it was brought to everyone's attention by the smoking gun this week that the events unfolding on the pages are fictious or stretched truths... smoking gun says, "oprah winfrey's been had."

now, you can actually take your copy back if this news upsets you... if purchased straight from the publisher than there's no question, the 20 some-odd bucks is yours... if purchased from a bookstore than you may have to sweet talk the sales associates at chapters... although frey states this isn't true... too bad i missed him on larry king tonight... because how the heck do you respond to a smoking gun?!?!

here's my problem though, do people really care that much? was it not still a good read? to be honest, i didn't even know it was a memoir... i just thought it was a fuckin' good book i'd neglected to pick up... sure, it makes you trust the author a bit less, or a lot less... but is a good read, not a good read? i know once my english courses are off my plate, i'm heading down to chapters in may and buying both a million little pieces and his follow-up, my friend leonard... and i'll be sure to throw out my receipt and write my name inside the covers...
