i turn 22 tomorrow... geez! where did time go?
time flies when you're growing up...
i stumbled upon a chicken soup for the teenage soul journal in my closet a week ago... under the question, what do you think is the perfect age? i scribbled 21... i don't even remember writing that, but i do recall thinking in my blissful youth that 21 was where it's at, due to legal status in all of north america and such... and how do i feel now that it's over? it wasn't a bad age... nothing spectacular, another year chalked up... a little bit older, a little bit wiser...
now as i turn 22 it's like a wake up call that over the past few years my friends and i have slowly morphed into these humans that resemble adults... ewww!!! what's going on?!?! i have one friend who shipped herself off to greece; one who now works downtown at a huge law firm as a legal assistant; one who lives with her boyfriend; one who is taking off to europe with her new squeeze; one who just bought a new condo; one who just rented a new townhouse; and one who just bought her first car... my brother, who is only a year older than me, is getting hitched in less than a month... my other brother who is only five years my senior is married and now contemplating children...
i'll be starting an internship with a major national magazine in a week and a half and i have one more year of university to go before i'm house/apartment hunting in toronto (or some other fabulous city) looking for my big break... it's like life just changes when you're not paying attention and all of sudden the big steps you've already taken pale in comparison to the ones that lie ahead... it seems like yesterday that i was pulling on my navy blue raw silk gown for my high school graduation... crossing my fingers that i wouldn't trip up the steps at my commencement... and gulping at butterflies in my stomach as i moved into rez - a world of strangers that are now some of the most familiar and comforting faces that fill my life... as the calender strikes 05/05/05 tomorrow, i'll be impatiently awaiting those next big steps...
