another day closer to the end and another day of food satisfaction...
i took some extra time this morning to cut up some fresh pears and peaches to take to work... honestly, i could do that every morning... it was a treat to sit at my desk, plugging away at all kinds of work to do, with a sweet little something-something at my side... suddenly my regular scone/breakfast sandwich and coffee had been transformed into fruit and water and i was okay with it -- wha?!?!
for lunch i leaned on the rules a bit and indulged in my first meal out on the cleanse... sushi... so, white rice instead of brown (still acceptable) and plenty of fish... it was a strange experience to consume it all sans soy sauce, but enjoyable nonetheless... and even though i usually skip the ginger on the side, this time i heaped it on, running out before my chopsticks could pinch the last piece...
a conversation i had on sunday that i forgot to mention was one with my friend lauren... she's been on a proactive cleanse to help adjust the amount of yeast in her body... in many respects our diets have been similar, so we've been sharing in the ease and pains of it all... she was completing her cleanse on sunday and naturally the discussion turned to what we'll take away from this whole experience, diet-wise...
without a doubt, i now plan to avoid white flour as much as humanly possible, cutting gluten out of my eating habits completely... i'll turn to alternative flours and gluten-free options instead, as i've come to realize the vast selection out there... i've never wanted to obsess about what i eat, count calories, or deprive myself of things i love, but i think now is as good a time as any to begin a new way of eating sensibly... it can't hurt -- if i don't think about it too much...
eight down... four to go.
