the sensuality of the strange...

the world is full of varying rates of normalcy... people are divided by their culture, appearance, actions and ethics -- some defined as ordinary and others embarking on strange, even harshly as freaks... but, no one in particular can state and claim their ideals and visuals as the ruling criteria... can they?

diane arbus, an american photographer, found the vividly candid and human side of those that most cower away from... disfigurement and the undeniably different were embraced by her lens and her heart, not denied as something unlike her own exterior... her fascination was not rooted in exploitation, pity or strictly artistic intent even, but in a true appreciation in depth of soul and a genuine intrigue...

though her silver screen bio-pic is largely based on imagination and construction of her supposed persona, it reflects this strength of not fearing the different but accepting them for the heart and soul that makes "us and them" similar after all... admittedly, i often struggle with breaking down and ignoring the differences... if only arbus' optimism and open minded nature was more infectious...
