shortly after palming a cold one, the first opener of the night took the stage... hailing from montreal, the lovely feathers got the crowd shaking their money-makers with up-tempo, poppy, constructed, melodic masterpieces... kudos to a band that got me moving and craving more - hence the album purchase later... i couldn't take my eyes off the stage on account of the spastic dancing the guitarist and lead vocalist took part in... plus, the keyboardist was wearing what my friend janice and i have now dubbed as "cugs"... slouchy light brown boots, half resembling cowboy boots and half uggs...
second opener was 50% of the reason why i shelled out the dough for the night... jason collett, in his adorable white tuxedo jacket glory, took the stage with his ruggedly dressed posse... his little sideways dances and gentle guitar sway were perfection... "i'll bring the sun" was delivered with such sincerity... with a modest smirk and apologetic banter, collett and his band exited the stage briskly to venture off to montreal for their second gig of the night... before his departure i got the chance to meet him and have my cd autographed - in case you're wondering, his signature is exactly like him; a little childish, manly, slightly erratic and simplistic at the same time...
with a string of those tube lights (often found in rez rooms) strung across the stage, metric finally took the stage... emily in her trusty black/navy get up, kicked off her heels and commenced her onstage dance-a-thon on a purposefully laid out area rug... juxtaposing both old and new styles and influences into an ultimately enjoyable time, the band once again proved why tickets to the show were such a hot item... i got a brief taste of the new album in the summer, but this performance cinched it for me that this crew is not one to falter on their sophomore go around the record block... don't believe me? check out track "patriarch on a vespa"... showing her down-to-earth side, emily stopped mid-song to take a moment for a proper hello to the crowd...
with purple star lights stretching across the walls, ceiling and stage, metric appeared to be more than exhilarated to share their shiny new material with the masses... admittedly for this fan, it was refreshing to hear some new tunes change up the set... the undeniable air of enjoyment on stage screamed for complete unadulterated fun, leading to tapping toes and shaking of the often rigid ottawa concert-goers' hips... and an extended version of crowd fav, "dead disco" as the encore closer didn't hurt either...
le sigh, music makes the world a better place...
