sled dogs and my sciatic nerve...

while the day was long yesterday (as per usual), i capped it off with drinks with a friend, great conversation, running into familiar faces and an interesting/delicious dinner at the drunken goat in dawson city... then we had a media meeting, which left me feeling slightly "meh"... back to my room to write and acknowledge my throbbing hips and legs... passed out by 1:00 a.m. and up by 5:30 a.m...

whoa, this all sounds too bitter already... i should say that this is proving to be a completely unique and incredible experience... but it's also easy to want to curse the decision to do it because i'm cranky and sore... i really have met some amazing people though and the whole thing is certainly chalked up as something that i never thought i'd do in a million years...

when i got on the phone with the sports guy at a radio station back in whitehorse for our regular 6:40 a.m. call in update, even he noticed the fatigue in my voice... i tried to tough it out, writing up a storm, interviewing, transcribing, etc... but i was feeling more and more exhausted and, quite frankly, terrible as the hours went on... finally i dismissed myself for a nap and found the walk from the visitor's centre to peggy's almost impossible... my right leg was literally non-functioning...

when i finally got to my room, i almost collapsed in pain... it was as though my right leg just decided not to rotate properly in my hip or something and instead sent a pulsing pain down my leg, creating that fuzzy, crippling feeling... i attempted stretches, which felt equal parts amazing and amazingly painful...

finally, i crawled into bed, being extremely careful with each tiny movement, placed a pillow between my knees and shut my eyes... an hour and a half later i awoke feeling not only refreshed, but mobile again...

honey mustard ham, potato salad, strawberry/rhubarb pie and a coffee... wrote a press release, updated facebook and clocked out... now the last round of espresso martinis, time to finally take that bath -- a good and long one for sure -- and off to bed... and tomorrow i don't have to be up at the crack of dawn... sweeeeeeeeet...
