riding the trail...

right now my toes are slightly chilled, i'm wearing a wool turtleneck sweater pulled up over my chin and mouth, and i'm constantly wondering when i might get the chance to sleep again -- even if for a few minutes... for about 36 hours now i've been on the yukon quest trail... it's an international sled dog race and once carried the moniker of being the "toughest race in the world" or something intimidating to that effect... teams race 1,000 miles through alaska to the yukon -- each year it switches, either starting in fairbanks or whitehorse...

so why exactly am i here? i'm working as a media relations team member, which means updating our facebook and twitter feeds, writing press releases, posting articles to the main webpage and likely a few other things that i'm forgetting right now due to lack of sleep... at this very moment i'm in central, alaska -- also known as checkpoint #3 on the trail -- waiting for the final musher to come in for the night...

this entire race is new to me... i know very little about the yukon quest, let alone dog mushing as a sport... the rules are foreign to me and i'm sort of on both sides when it comes to the whole media thing -- and by both sides i mean the light and the dark... i'll let you decide which is which... i'm still deciding myself...

duty calls for now... more to come...
