'tis the season...

street lights are lined with blue and white flickering decorations... main street seems busier, as people pass with bags in hand... the chill north of 60 is undeniable and the mix of christmas tunes into our regular morning show further clarifies the season upon us...

it feels strange to wrap gifts and then ship them away with all the other parcels... it seems odd to not have a tree to come home to, glistening with ornaments and tinsel... on the contrary, it is refreshing to not be tackling my way through throngs of shoppers in a huge complex of shops...

christmas has never been about the getting -- well, with the exception maybe of when toys were on the list... increasingly, for me, it has become a time of family... heading home from university, gathering 'round the table to feast and sitting by a fire...

this year there's a sense of transition... the beginning of new traditions and the reflection on old ones...

recently, i told my father that it's difficult to deal with family situations when i'm so long away from family members... he replied, "but you do have family there"... i glanced up at the comforting man in front of me and realized he's right...
