every now and then i take a little jaunt through the apple trailers site... it's no secret we all go to the movies for the previews just as much as we do for the feature presentation... this morning i came across one of the most brilliantly marketed films i've seen in a long time... its poster is simple (as you see here)... no title is given, only a date -- 1.18.08... the trailer reveals just as little, showcasing only short scenes from a young new yorker's farewell party, an explosion and the hurling of lady liberty's severed statue head onto a side street... chaos hits the big city once again in a seemingly monster-driven or alien-induced state of affairs...
what is it? no one is quite sure... that's the beauty of it... the man who brought television audiences lost, alias and felicity, has internet sci-fi fanatics scrounging for any possible clues as to what he's up to now... sure, it might just end up being another "monster in the city" destruction blockbuster fresh after christmas for the masses, but at least it's making the cinematic world a little more lively... arguably making seeing something on the big screen worth the ticket price again...
i could eat my words... don't fail me j.j. abrams...
