while walking to our transit stop in second year university, a blonde busom buddy and i ran into none other than mr. dalton mcguinty -- ontario’s leading man... with his mug plastered across a huge coach bus parked in the lot and media fawning around him, it was hard not to notice a slight commotion... then suddenly we got sucked into the fray when one of mcguinty’s people asked if we wanted to say hello... the blonde said something to the proper-looking premier about voting green party, while I stated my liberal stance...
the two of us were bundled up so heavily in mismatched layers and, without a lick of cosmetics on our tired faces, we looked homely for the wintry ottawa walk to morning class -- after the excitement, we joked that we should have extended an offer to his provincial highness to join our fictitious “garbage fire”...
he looked like a walking, talking ken doll... perfectly coiffed hair, suit pressed and those politically correct (albeit, disgustingly safe) comments spewing out of his mouth… he was borderline animatronic...
this morning i pushed my premier count to two, when the yukon’s leading man sat in for a cup of coffee on the show... the scent of generously applied after-shave flooded the studio as he waltzed in sporting a red/black leather-sleeved junior league hockey bomber jacket... his hair was grey, slicked back with product, with a matching smoky-hued goatee to boot... clenching his tim horton’s roll up the rim cup, he sauntered in as casually as he let himself out -- jumping into his huge pick-up truck and roaring off into the sunrise...
i turned to my co-host after he’d departed to compare notes on my mcguinty and dennis fentie impressions... in the central province they’re all about appearances and stature -- but for the north folk, they’ve given up on attempting to fool anyone that they’re anything other than human...
