getaway...

in between cleaning a house that had obviously been hit by a swarm of party-goers, we danced to billie holiday... right there, in the middle of the living room, as the sun shone in through windows that stretched to the ceiling... it reminded me of my grandparents -- they'd always hold each other close and sway to the oldies in the kitchen on sunday afternoons, while my brothers and i would stuff our faces full of cereal and clap when they were done...

it takes a weekend away sometimes to just slow down... especially around this time of year, it feels as though things pull from every direction... wasaga beach, a white trash christmas bash, friends, booze, good times... the perfect equation for stopping to smell the roses...

it flew by like a moment... late night hot-tub, realizing it's only 11:45 when we're all sauced up... jaeger-bombs, so-co... morgan and his sake... the girls line-dancing until their cheeks were rosy and their bodies out of breath... country, johnny cash, "dead wrong" by biggie smalls and anything else anyone commanded from the ipods... secret santa gifts of toy trucks and talking wrestling soaps, beef jerky, play rifles and nascar pez dispensers...

in the morning, as we danced, it all seemed so quiet... most of the culprits had disappeared and we were left with sticky counters, redneck presents strewn about and many a story to keep us laughing for the ride home...
