reflection...

we didn't believe the girl that ran up to us and told us... we thought she'd gotten the story wrong... "a plane flew into some buildings? yeah... ok"... but it quickly materialized into reality as we piled into my car parked out front of our high school... we flicked on the radio to hear the ill news...

i didn't actually see the unbelieveable images of the disaster until i got home that night... they weren't showing it at school... my eyes were glued to cnn for hours... finally i couldn't watch the same clips over and over anymore...

a year prior, i'd walked the streets of that very city with my mother... we took advantage of all the sights and sounds -- i even have some stellar pics of the twin towers from the water... to this day i still have trouble really grasping that it is all true... i haven't been back to see ground zero, but one day i'd like to pay my respects... i can't imagine a hole like that devouring the city... i can't close my eyes and truly picture the altered skyline...

i heard a story today about a young woman that died in the tragedy... after they'd lost her, her family found a list she'd made of 100 things she wanted to do with her life... they distributed it to friends and family so that they could have a better understanding of what life meant to her... after hearing this, i thought about making a life list... but honestly, it's a heavy task... confusion of the present clouds my judgment... but maybe one day i'll know exactly what it is that will make me proud of myself...
