it's ranting time...
please note that waitressing is not a glamourous gig... it's not easy to run around and make every eater a happy chomper... it's not easy to remember things you don't write down and time each course to a tee in order to work effectively with the kitchen... it's not easy to know every menu item and the extensive wine list... and most importantly, it's not easy to avoid anger when a table doesn't leave a tip behind...
tonight i charmed two women with wine, appetizers, entrees, dessert and cappucino... we joked, we smiled and they thoroughly enjoyed their meal... however, come the time they departed the restaurant, i guess the thrill had gone... as i picked up their debit slip from the bar i noticed that not only did they not tip me well, they did not tip me at all... i want to chalk this one up as a big fat mistake, however i'm too fuming to even swallow that fantasy...
the thorn in my side is that they thanked me on their way out and were all smiles and appreciative... so where the hell did i go wrong? in case anyone reading this was born yesterday, please be aware that 15% is the standard... as a waitress i love to see my table leave happy, but i do expect a little compensation for doing so... i realize it's my job, but my less than minimum wage rate hardly eases the pain in my overworked feet at the end of the night... serving is all about the tips -- it's what we do this damn job for...
i only hope that one day one of these cheapskate women i had the pleasure of serving are taking my order down... i'll be sure to show them how it feels...
