do you ever get that feeling when you're listening to a great song, where it's like the world turns into a feature film? whether you're on a bus or train, just walking down the street, or sitting in your room, all of a sudden you can picture yourself being the focus of a long shot or dramatic close-up as a tear falls from your eye...
this happens to me quite often when a song speaks to me... when it seems to perfectly capture a moment... and each lyric describes the way you are feeling and what you're thinking... these are the songs i always say will be featured on the soundtrack of my life... like "green eyes" by coldplay... or "concrete sky" by beth orton, "idioteque" by radiohead and "cigarettes and chocolate milk" by rufus wainwright...
sometimes when a song makes you stare out the window starry-eyed or warms you like a blanket as you struggle to fall asleep, you just can't stop listening to it... my friend darren sent me a song last night that has me hooked... i've sent it to two of my roomies and listened to it over 20 times already... each time the last chord plays, i start it again... it's beautiful, touching and one of those songs you wish was written for you... it's called "hey there delilah" by the plain white t's...
it's one of those songs you listen to loudly through your headphones when sitting in an airport, expecting a long lost lover to appear out of the corner of your eye, just to embrace you and tell you how much they need you...
everyone has a soundtrack, i'm just one of those music-obsessed types that takes the time (and a blog post) to admit it... now i'm tempted to flood my room with my abundant cd collection and begin to put together a double-disc set that is my soundtrack... everything from "glycerine" by bush (mems of middle school dances) to "more than words" by extreme (i still know every lyric)... at this rate, i'll never get any real work done...
