the other day my mother told me i should be writing in a journal more often... when i told her that i blog (albeit irregularly of late) she said it's not enough... to her, blogging isn't truly putting it all out there -- a paper journal holds secrets i'll never tell the internet... and it's those secrets that she says i need for the future... to look back and remember how something felt, why i did it, or how it changed me...
but i often struggle to pick up the pen and paper... my days are filled with writing, whether it be for radio or the local arts paper... it sounds like an excuse, but sometimes i feel like i've used up my vocabulary for the day...
i interviewed a local musician a few months ago and when i asked her about her career aspirations, she said being a full-time songstress wasn't in the cards... she feared that making a living out of what she loved to do could actually stifle it and draw out some of that burning passion... i'd never thought of it that way before -- i'd always assumed that working doing what you loved was the ultimate goal...
now, i'm not planning on switching my day job anytime soon, but it's all caused me to pause a bit... and try to resurrect my journal to find a balance that works...
