visual investment...

for as long as i can remember, i've had a deep love for visual art... at one point in my life i even tinkered around with personally exploring a variety of media -- acrylic, watercolour, sculpture, pen and ink, pastel... though the creation aspect never truly stuck, i have a penchant for throwing on some heels and attended art openings north of 60...

and beyond the pomp and circumstance, there are usually free hor d'oeuvres...

often times i've had the chance to sit down with the artist and pick their brain on the work -- talk about their process, influence and style... the most recent circumstance: coffee, tea and meghan hildebrand... the only glimpse i'd had of her work was online or on four postcards advertising the show... one of the postcards featured a piece called "clue givers can lose points in two ways" and i'd fallen in love with its whimsical urban abstract... seeing it in person was a whole new world where brush strokes and collage items were visible and one could fully embrace the attention to detail... and i had to have it...

owning art never seemed like a possibility... it seemed this hierarchy i could never be a part of... and while i admit the pricetag that comes along with owning something so original makes the heart slightly palpitate, it's also an invigorating feeling to know it's yours... unlike so many other things in life, an art collection travels and will never simply be discarded... as it re-appears on each new wall in each new home, it becomes a beacon of your habitat and a staple in your decor...

and now i play the waiting game -- for the piece to go from gallery to living room in a few months time... and i'll responsibly quash the urge to visit it on a daily basis...
