weekend wandering...

in the past two weekends i think i've managed to see more of the territory than i have since i first landed north of the 60th parallel...

first, music took my focus to dawson city two weekends ago... a small, colonial-esque old theatre housed quite possibly one of the best performance evenings i have seen in quite some time... the culprits: old man luedecke, jill barber, great lake swimmers and amy millan... perched on what looked and seemed like refurbished dining room chairs, i spent the evening slightly yearning for ontario life once again due to some of the southern-based artists taking the stage... the festival was certainly an experience, albeit considerably tame in comparison to gigantic ontario displays i've witnessed at concerts gone by... but with sun-blazing weather, camping and a media pass, it was none-too-shabby...

second, professional matters whisked me off to beaver creek this past weekend... "where?", you're undoubtedly thinking -- it's the most westerly spot in the yukon, right on the edge of where alaska meets up with the territory... i spent a day poking around an archaeological site, eating moose stew and shoving my microphone in people's faces... it was a long lonely drive with no cell phone and barely any directions, but i drove the alaska highway 5.5 hours and survived... i'm waiting for my t-shirt in the mail...

my past friday evening was spent in the familiar locale of haines junction, about 1.5 hours outside of the 'horse... i feasted on a burger from a chinese restaurant and watched reality bites in my sweltering motel room... sparing the details, my saturday was spent waiting and wanting to be back in the comforts of my apartment...

once i returned to the "big" city, i realized my professional stress was transforming into personal strife... work was coming home with me, where it didn't belong... life is a lot slower and reasonable less stressful out here compared to the city, however frustrations were plaguing my vision of that simplicity... learning the hard way about negative actions can sometimes lead to the best lessons learned...

after sending ourselves to our respective corners, breaking from the fight, we entered into a truce rather than another round of brash boxing... for a moment it might have crossed my mind that we were en route for doom, but then a sense of triviality surfaced to confirm that often the hardest conversations have as much a place in life as the easy ones do...
