melancholy muttering...

this is one of those cases where maybe i'm over-reacting... one of those times when -- for some reason other than my monthly crimson wave -- i'm easily on the verge of tears... or maybe it's because i simply woke up cranky... either or, instead of smiling and bidding my parents adieu on their voyage to the cottage, i pouted at the kitchen table, sending death stares into my special k... those stares were actually meant for my stepmother...

this isn't a cinderella story, where she's an evil lass attempting to steal my father's good soul... it's not a case of the bitter bitch that came in like a cyclone, destroying all that my family stood for in her path... what it is, is a case of her dealing my personal news out to my pops -- i mean, do they have nothing else to talk about but me? sure, i sit down with her and shoot the shit about my life because she's easy to talk to and around during the day... but pops works 9-5 and i'm usually at work when he finally hits the homestead at night... therefore, what's going on in my life isn't crystal clear to him anymore... but when it comes to new and exciting changes in my life, i'd like to be the one that spreads the word... a heavily repeated chorus of "karen told me" carves the baring of the news down to a lackluster state... second-hand news doesn't carry the same energy...

however, once i'd let the anger out of the bag and told them that i was disappointed it wasn't me spreading my exciting news of a possible upcoming move, my main man simply fed me a cover-up line and ushered his love out the door... even the welling up of my eyes didn't slow down their pace to the exit...

they likely sit in the car thinking i'm over-reacting; it's not that big of a deal, they say... it crosses their minds that i'm a melodramatic brat... while i sit here wishing i'd just slept in and missed that whole experience, longing for the days when my dad and i used to hash everything out over coffees, dinners or sunshine outside...

now, in their eyes, i've reverted back to being a child...
