escape: part one...

alarm clock strikes 8 am and i'm up and out the door in less than 20 minutes... my destination is home to lazy days, basking in the sun and the soft sound of nature... air you can actually breathe and wildlife that doesn't feast on garbage scraps... with nothing but a warm cup of timmy-ho's java and some choice cds to keep me company, my need for speed was bound to get the best of me... suddenly, traveling at 140+ km/h doesn't seem so fast -- and i'm making impeccable time... the wind began to whisper through the black soft top that transformed the car from party-time to practical... rain schizophrenically patters on the windshield -- mother nature couldn't decide if it would stay... the open road of green fields and rock faces distract me from the poison of my lead foot... until...

"you do realize this is a 100 km/h zone?"
"ahem... yes, yes i do..."

head hung in shame, with a slight snicker of defeat smeared across my face... i'm caught red-handed... i pass the attitude test with flying colours by behaving myself and accepting my guilt...

"now, whenever you're ready, gain some speed and safely merge back onto the highway... of course, you know how to use your gas pedal, so that shouldn't be a problem"

i wonder if his sense of humour made him a hit around the station... in fact, he was a kind badge-bearer and knew i was simply joy-riding... although the healthy 3-digit ticket he tossed my way sure cut the joy out pretty quick... i drove away with a giggle... only 4 kms faster and he said i'd have lost my license for a month... "oops" was about the greatest response to that i could muster...

with my eyesight still firmly set on the rest and relaxation that awaited me in the depths of a rustic cottage, i wavered slightly above and below only 120 max, shrugged and uncharacteristically thought, "things could be worse"...
