so, some guy thought it would be a fantastic contribution to create a large scale sculpture of britney spears giving birth to sean preston on a bear skin rug... well, if it had crossed my mind, i too would've thought it was brilliant... *cough* *cough*... and to further the water-cooler talk about this piece of "art", the artist stated it is a conversational outlet for pro-life activism, giving it the title, monument to pro-life: the birth of sean preston... ok... i can't help but feel that this artist simply slapped brit-brit's name and a little abortion debate on this sculpture knowing full well it would then receive a huge amount of attention...
first off, is it just me, or does this damn thing look nothing like mrs. federline anyway? furthermore, i don't exactly think of brit as being a prime choice for pro-life efforts... although that could be because i don't think pro-life is a prime choice of activism... there... i said it -- let the angry comments flow...
bottom line is, the sculpture isn't even anything that spectacular... in fact, it's a little anti-climatic for something considered to be so sexual, revealing and human... henry moore had a lot more going on in his less distinguished shape forms... thus this sculpture begs the question, is it art for art's sake, or art for fame's sake? i think the answer is pretty obvious... at least the topic makes for a darn good alliteration...
