sugar never tasted so sweet...

1. i came into work late this morning… 2. my first accomplishment of the day was walking carter, one of the copy editors’ miniature pincher… a fellow intern and i volunteered for the poop-and-scoop task because, honestly, little carter was just way too cute to pass up… so around the rogers building we went with a crumpled up shoppers’ bag in hand… after no success in the bathroom business from the spoiled pup and plenty of stopping to smell the roses, we returned to the front desk of the building only to be told that we were not allowed pets on the premises… minutes of panic ensued and finally we found ourselves sneaking the little guy in 10 minutes later around the back door… other than a dirty paw print on my white corset-esque top and some nervous squeaking from the furry one in the elevator, we made it back safe and sound…

after a day of dog-sitting, reading mags and a bit of work inbetween, two other interns and myself headed down yonge st. for a drink… one rude waiter, two beers and a three dip platter later, i was on to my final (and most anticipated) destination of the day… air canada centre for the sugar water festival… floetry, queen latifah, jill scott and erykah badu… since i don’t possess a wallet of wealth, i had to give in to the cheap seats in 320, but luck was on our side tonight as we climbed the two escalators up… a pleasant woman stopped us in our tracks to say that due to poor ticket sales, the 300 level was closed for the night, so if we could kindly make our way back down to the 100s, our tickets would then be exchanged for something sweeter…
section 108, row 10, seats 16-17… now we’re talkin’! queen latifah rocked the house with soul, blues, r&b, hip-hop and even a stunning rendition of california dreamin’… jill scott broke my heart with her emotional lyrics and made me laugh with her stage presence… busting out into opera in her live version of a long walk was enough to make me tingle… finally, erykah badu took the stage in a shocking blue head wrap and black two-piece skirt suit… intoxicating is all there was to say as she kicked off her performance with green eyes…
there’s something about how a concert stays with you the whole card ride home… and even in the morning, you find yourself singing those same tunes and throwing the artists’ albums into your bag on your way to the office… the incredible versatility amongst those beautiful women last night was a true testament to what music should be… from the heart, soul and mind…
