i'm not big on astrology... in fact, i never have been... sure, once or twice i've read my horoscope and it has been eerily accurate, which leads me to stop in disbelief and read it out loud to a few close friends... otherwise, i couldn't really be bothered to even know which astrological sign lines up with which month...
however, i have a friend who feels deeply connected to the spiritual world... it's a trait of hers that i often entertain for the sake of not only our friendship, but to see if maybe one day i'll sway... she's read my angel cards and horoscope to me countless times... talked about my sign in relation to my lover's or friend's, etc... and then after griping about a series of recent events to her the other day, she paused and said, "it's saturn return"...
naturally i had no clue was she was going on about, but upon further googling i have to admit that i'm intrigued... saturn return is essentially when saturn returns to the same position it was in when you were born, thus making one full cycle around the sun... this takes 29.5 years to happen... therefore the saturn return is considered to be a portion in our lives when change is prevalent and plentiful...
i am turning 29 in a matter of months -- the saturn return is said to impact us during such a time, waking us up to life choices, ridding of our youthful fog, revealing who we really are and putting us face-to-face with our fears... it is basically viewed as a passage into adulthood and a time to reflect and decide where we take ourselves from here... it's about gathering all the pain, the happiness, the experiences and the passion of the first 29 years of your life and figuring out how to channel that into the next 29 years when saturn will return again...
as i scoured the web for information, i found myself calmed by a sense of solace this spiritual thinking provided... a part of me of course wonders if it's just coincidence, as each 30 year period in a person's life can easily be considered a milestone, but it is nonetheless interesting to know that the planets happen to be aligning in unison...
this does feel like a time where childhood has left, youth is vanishing, yet adulthood is still just peering around the corner... it feels like a time when decisions are more weighted and the company you keep is increasingly scrutinized as you more clearly understand the influence each moment has on you... one website i read likened the saturn return to a mid-term exam -- a test of all you've absorbed thus far and a refresher on how that all fits into the bigger picture of what could be next... welcome to the turning point...
