slut, a definition...

*the following was discovered during a hilarious phone conversation with my brother last night...

there are times in our lives -- well, perhaps just certain people, but still -- where one companion is not all we're after... whether that mean a series of dates with various others, or various evenings spent with a series of others (if you're picking up what i'm putting down)... this can be considered to be part of "the single life"...

when such decisions recently came up in conversation, it became clear to me why exactly women are labeled as "sluts" for such choices, while men are given high fives and bought a beer by their best friends -- it's because women can actually get away with a lot more... therefore this four letter word must have been crafted by the men that hate them for that...

what i'm about to write might bother some of the feminists out there, but i actually mean this with a sense of empowerment... you see, women can clearly state to the men that come into their lives that this isn't exclusive; that they are actively seeing other people; and that they have no expectations from them... men on the other hand aren't usually going to get away with that... if a man tells a woman that he doesn't want a commitment; might not call her again; or is busy on friday because he's getting busy with someone else, it will more often than not spell disaster... chalk it up as stereotypically sensitivity, but most women are not necessarily inclined to share their mate (i know, i'm generalizing, but seriously)...

often times when a girl sheds that clingy mentality in return for a casual, no-strings-attached lifestyle, the men in her life welcome it with open arms... although to be fair and appreciate the sensitivity of both genders, the sexual spice of life is all about the need for control... the one who decides something is casual always has an easier time with it than the one who was told that's how it is...

but, back to my original point... perhaps the reason why women who explore the joys of variety in life carry the moniker of "slut" is because men are just jealous that they can't get away with the same honesty... it doesn't seem far off to me...

"slut: a person of any gender who has the courage to lead life according to the radical proposition that sex is nice and pleasure is good for you."
