summing it up...

after somewhat ranting yesterday about how we measure a year, i'm sitting at work now with little to nothing to do and beginning to tally up a personal list of productivity... did you know i took three trips this year? three! but when you live in a place where there's only about two shops worth even attempting to glance through (and you're used to the streets of toronto) you'll do anything to get out on the regular...

besides jet-setting times trois, this year was eventful career wise and well, just in general... i wanted to take a page from my east coast friend's blog -- she sums up the year by clipping the first sentence off the first post from each month of the year gone by... but then i realized i was so absent from blogging this year that there's no may entries and a huge gap between june and december... oops...

so, here goes the annual fare of a list, in no particular order, that takes a condensed look back at 2008...

1. just days into the new year, our car is rear-ended by what can only be described as a strange and crazy woman... battle ensues for months to follow...
2. found a new muscle to strengthen -- as an emcee... enlisted to shout at the crowds for a local arts festival, cd release, wedding (see further down list) and to ring in 2009 at a NYE party...
3. did my own taxes...
4. took a bad job situation and traded it for a good one...
5. the ceeb...
6. random run in with a childhood acquaintance... in whitehorse!
7. purchased my first original piece of artwork...
8. now i own about five of 'em...
9. reintroduced mother-daughter time... teamed up in vancouver for great conversations, good food and shopping...
10. took the plunge... two words: urban mullet...
11. interviewed david suzuki and hawksley workman in the flesh...
12. oh... and kurt browning over the phone...
13. the lover received a grant from the government and mounted his first photography show at the yukon arts centre...
14. look ma, i'm famous -- first television piece went to air...
15. participated in a factor jury selection...
16. traveled the dirt roads to dawson city once again for the dawson city music festival... (basia bulat, black mountain, the sadies, julie doiron, justin rutledge, hayden, belle orchestre, torngat...)
17. laughed, cried and seriously pondered while attending a live appearance with stephen lewis...
18. journey to newfoundland...
19. went cod jigging, saw dolphins swim beside the boat, hiked to a waterfall, newfie arena dances, partied with the jacobs...
20. applied for and received arts funding from the yukon government for a new project -- coming february 2009...
21. ventured home for the first visit in well over a year...
22. witnessed and participated in my dear friends joining in holy matrimony... i love you erin and kyle...
23. reunited with the ones i love... realized that some things never change... in a good way...
24. saw a ghost from the past...
25. danced and performed in a burlesque show...
