pink parts: for privacy or public?

when i first started dating the man i'm still dating, i took a look through his photography portfolio... amongst strange photoshop creations, intense portraits and memories of asia, was a black and white photo of a young woman -- naked puffing a cigarette... nips and bush were strategically hidden with limbs and body language... the story goes that when the shoot happened she developed a touch of shyness... to the point where he had to turn around while she shifted positions to ensure the circumstance remained as pure as possible...

when i think about it though, is it really all about butterflies? to me, it's much deeper than that... i mean, how many horror stories are out there about a girl (or guy for that matter) who willingly displayed their no-no regions for photographic purposes only to have it be later utilized for pornographic purposes... leaked to the web, distributed via email, maybe even published if you're famous enough to matter...

and while the mr. and i have discussed the [hypothetical] possibility of him capturing my own birthday suit on film, it's never come into fruition... why? did you read the last paragraph?

so... i was slightly surprised to read today that 21% of teen girls have sent/posted nude or semi-nude photos of themselves... i say slightly surprised because you do have to factor in how dim some teens can be... i certainly made my own mistakes, but the naivety is astounding on this one... they are aware that photos of one's self scantily-clad, or not clad at all, are just for others' "alone time" purposes, right? well, unless they are well lit and professionally crafted... some nudes are undoubtedly beautiful, but not point and shoots taken in the bathroom mirror...

i can hear it now... the stories of "well, it was just for my boyfriend... it was his birthday... he said he'd never show nobody else"...

the world wide web is a tricky, horrific place that sucks our better judgment from our brains and convinces us that blogs where we poor our hearts out, social networks where we include our home phone number and photo sites where we bare our pink parts are all brilliant ideas -- says the blogger with a facebook account containing photos from the burlesque show she recently starred in... but that's different... right?
