different strokes for different folks...

the possibility of living amongst towering buildings, smog and a constant sense of immediacy can cause some to break out into a cold sweat... conversely, a life in a simple, slow-paced spot with little more than a main street stretch can lead to impatient hysteria in others...

maybe it's determined by where we came from... or, maybe it's linked to what we've seen, done and heard... or, both of those theories could be quashed and it could simply be about the personal attachment one makes with their environment... either way, we all seem to have a distinct comfort for big city or small town... a select few of us can even profess to loving both equally...

i grew up in the epitome of suburbia -- a not-so-small destination less than an hour outside of toronto... shopping malls, a variety of coffee stops, movie theatres with multiple screens, clubs, pubs, concert venues and the bright lights of the big city a tolerable transit ride or highway jaunt away... admittedly, i got used to it... i feel more satisfaction in calling a city my home than waiting for a small town to grow on me... above the 60 parallel, some people think you're crazy for saying, let alone thinking, that's so...

the bustle gets me moving, the dog-eat-dog mentality keeps my motivation in check, the wealth of entertainment fills my schedule and the familiar faces overflow my heart... my bias is undeniably connected to it being my homeland, but ultimately it comes down to a simple cliche: "you can take the girl out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the girl..."
