interior designs...

both of my parents' households are very co-ordinated... colours carefully chosen, with matching throw pillows, knick-knacks and the like... my mother and stepmother both have an undeniable affinity for scoring new accessories for the home, whether it be a simple candle, cloth napkins or another dreaded centrepiece...

even when my parents went their separate ways, they managed to find new partners with furnishings in complimentary colours... i used to consider their design desires to be a little over-done... until now...

just the other day i found myself scouring the shelves at my local home sense... i was looking to pick up the perfect gift for my handsome's mother... nothing too fancy, in an earth tone with a slight dose of character... although i went in with the idea of a cozy throw blanket or an attractive vase, i managed to spend an entire hour in the store... i was getting excited at the clearance prices on wine glasses, cutting boards, antique looking lamps, exotic foot stools, modern trash bins and huge frames with monochromatic artwork... i could picture an apartment with exposed brick and a minimalist kitchen decked out with sharp knifes and chic martini glasses...

i had half a mind to stock up on future necessities, but then i realized step one was actually having a place to put all these sweet finds... thus i settled for a beautiful brown speckled vase with lavender potpourri for her and a $3.00 discount book of fashion art and poetry for me (i know, i don't know how i found this at home sense)... nonetheless, i went home dreaming up all the possibilities of home decor in my future...

my brothers always said i'd turn out like my mother...
