hidden treasures...

my stepmom has been hassling me to go through some bins of random things i own... they're taking up supposedly precious space in the basement, so i cracked them open this afternoon to sort and toss... needless to say, i uncovered some gems:

did you know that i have an extensive collection of utterly amazing barbie doll clothes?!?! some outfits even date back to the cool '60s, when the blonde bombshell favoured knitted cardigans, brushed cotton dressing gowns and a corduroy poodle skirt one-piece with puffy cap sleeves... i also boast a pair of hot pink and orange barbie rollerblades in near mint condition, along with two boom-boxes and the pink barbie dreamhouse that conveniently folds into a moderately sized briefcase...

who knew that i'd hoarded countless teenage letters of love, friendship and the like... 13-year-old depression was seemingly a bitch... boys were cruel and everything written on lined paper was precisely folded and deemed "very confidential"... and drawing a heart with you and yours' intials in it was a note-writing staple -- along with a completed round of MASH and a long-winded sign off ("your best friend, always and forever, for eternity, to the end of time, blah, blah, blah")...

my dark purple wristband from the rock and roll hall of fame is in perfect condition... i have both of the obituaries for my grandfathers... a long lost photograph of an ex-boyfriend is recovered -- it was the only one i had of the two of us and i'd forgotten what he looked like... seemingly useless plaques of prestige are in the exact same shape as they were when i got them... my collection of archie comics is fairly impressive... a rare collection of bunnykins chinaware is in my possession... all my yearbooks are in tip-top shape... though it's rather weathered, for some unexplainable reason, i have the tattered cardboard pack that was my first 25 king size of belmont milds...

the hardest part is deciding what to get rid of... even as i threw my felicity shagwell (from austin powers) halloween costume on the "goodwill" pile, my father scoffed and said, "you're not getting rid of that are you?"... even though deep down inside i knew he was only kidding, i made room for it in my third box of treasures...
