fall means falling temperatures so sweet sandals and flirty flip flops become less appropriate and more along the lines of daring… the “perfect” way to cover up your toes changes each year with the colours of the leaves though, leaving one to wonder: how do i survive fall ’05 with fabulous feet?
first thing is first, the ugg is over… for many this is a sigh of must-needed relief, although for others (like myself and my imitation airwalk uggs, or those who spent a small fortune to acquire the trendy booties) they will remain a comfortable staple in the shoe closet… however, as trends go, ugg = out, structured = in… the mags are begging you to sport a structured, slouchy boot that artistically attacks your ankle creating a fluid line of luxury, perfectly teamed with either tailored pants or the bubble skirt… go slouchy, but stylish in a leather boot or suede wedged heel… and if height is not an issue you’re in luck; the flat boot is the perfect way to make the transition from flip-flops and ballet flats to cooler degrees… the flat boot will be cropping up all over the place and FYI: payless shoes has an adorable suede-ish number in tan and black with a wrapped buckled strap (they are made by airwalk, but by no means is this post endorsed by said label)... toe shapes are popping up on the rounded side, giving these styles a retro feel...
but if slouchy, svelte, sophisticated boots are not your thing go for casual with cowboy boots or (heaven forbid) mukluks… some may think these overly furry, chewbacca-esque foot monstrosities are next on the fashion highway, but if you ask me they are worse than the ugg craze could have ever been… the fur, the tassles, the shame… cowboy boots i find much easier to swallow, especially since i’ve personally seen a multitude of people sport them rather well with anything from peasant skirts to kulats and cuffed denim… and who doesn't love a pointed toe peeking out from under a perfectly fitted pair of jeans...
in the end my conclusion is habitually the same, no matter the trends, wear what you want to wear… throwing out something for being “so last year” means you have to be “so fuckin’ loaded”… embrace what’s comfortable and what suits your own personal style… that’s what cultivating your fashion sense is all about… plus, when you live through ottawa winters, moon boots are the way to go, whether FLARE says so or not…
aine, i hope that somewhat helped your boot dilemma… excuse me, i have to go find my fake uggs now…
