some things were never meant to be...

after reading this article a few weeks ago, and then stumbling upon a friend's recent horrific discovery, i feel the need to fashion vent/rant...

sure, i wear purple jeans and often times stick to trends... i've worn uncomfortable shoes just because they're beautiful and yes, i have (only once or twice) worn leggings as though they were pants... but i swear it looked good...

i can embrace the over-the-top ridiculousness of haute couture, because that's exactly why they don't call it ready-to-wear... but i cannot, under any circumstances, make room in my closet for crop tops and scrunchies again... been there, and regretfully done that...

i remember snatching up just as many crop tops as i could get my hands on from the local stitches store when i was in my middle school and early high school days... that's when the school board started to realize that things had to change -- for good reason... we were adolescent girls, grouped with adolescent boys on a regular basis and there were our belly buttons out for the world to see... muffin tops weren't exactly an issue at the time, as we barely hit puberty and therefore had little to no idea what our bodies might actually look like down the road...

as for scrunchies, i know i had some stashed away in my drawers, but that can just be chalked up as a big mistake... need i remind anyone of "the scrunchy" episode of sex and the city? no matter how little the american apparel models wear in the ads, you simply cannot make a scrunchy look sexy... the jig is up...

as mentioned, i can get behind many trends... even if some aren't exactly my thing, or will never be worthy of a dime out of my bank account, i have an appreciation for the effort... but i still stand completely bewildered by this concept that looking as uncoordinated and tacky as possible is the essence of style...

there... i feel much better...
