every girl needs a roof and a bed and bright, bright light
that she can turn off at night
and fall asleep with the love of her life

in the dark depths of the winter, we'd talked of packing things in once the roads thawed... although it was a stretch to think our little hatchback could make it across the country, it was as though we'd cross our fingers and convinced ourselves without room for argument...
alas, june is almost gone and we are not... once the snow melted to only a memory and the sun began to shine late into the night, we were reminded of why people gravitate towards the north... there's only so much one can say about the midnight sun before words are exhausted and experience is necessary... each weekend is filled with another event, another gathering, another reason to stay...
the answers were so easy only months ago... this city seemed too small to satisfy, but now it has grown on us with increasing opportunity... when i reflect sometimes, it feels like i've only been exposed to this place for weeks -- that being home is but a recent memory... i often wonder what going "home" would feel like... and i repeatedly imagine that all i left behind would have simply stood still until i returned... going "home" would mean stepping back into things the same way i'd waved goodbye to them... or would it?
"when are you coming back?" is a common question amongst friends and family... at least now i can answer with a forecasted visit... otherwise who knows if "home" will ever be a spot to land... i'm torn too much between wanting what i know and wanting what i haven't yet gotten to know...
